I am an experienced qualified counsellor working privately and for the NHS. I have been providing professional healthcare for 34 years.
As a Registered Member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) I adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. bacp
My past and current work has given me experience of working with addictions, depression, stress, anxiety, anger, trauma, abuse, bereavement, loss, self harm, eating disorders, palliative care, learning difficulties, physical disability, obsessive compulsive disorders and enduring mental health problems.
As a NHS counsellor working with vulnerable adults I currently hold a DBS certificate equivalent to the now defunct enhanced CRB disclosure.
The primary model I use is psychodynamic which means I am interested in how our early experiences continue to have influence on our adult lives and how differences between what we feel and what we think can cause conflict. This may be experienced in the counselling session by exploring feelings, patterns of how you relate to other people and by considering what meaning there may be in unconscious communications and actions.
I may use ideas from Motivational Interviewing and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; particularly if working with addictions.
I appreciate the value that pets and other animals have to people and the importance of the role they can play in our lives. I understand the significance of peoples relationships with their animals and the difficulties involved with the loss of an animal.
I have an office in central Chichester which is a 10 minute walk from the train station, is close to the Cathedral bus stops and has car parks and metered roadside parking adjacent. The address and map can be found on the Contact page of this site.
I am also interested in how our disconnection from the natural world can cause distress and imbalance. I am developing ways of delivering nature assisted therapy, working with natural objects, nature symbolism and working outdoors. Nature work will only be offered if you request it and if it is appropriate. More about this on my 'Nature Therapy' page...
